Former special agent exposes internal conflict within the FBI in revealing new book

Insights on the FBI’s Internal Conflict

It’s disheartening, but honestly, it’s not surprising to see the unraveling of the FBI lately, especially with the revelations regarding the Arctic Frost case and other scandals. This situation really underscores the themes I explore in my book. Recently, I had the honor of visiting the Oval Office, where I met President Trump, who has voiced his support for my book.

Having served as an FBI Special Agent for over 12 years, I viewed my work as a profound responsibility. After completing my training at the FBI Academy, I was placed in the Miami Field Office. Initially, I dealt with white-collar crimes before moving to Squad C15, focused on the nation’s most notorious violent crime fugitives. The investigations I was part of were intense, to say the least.

While the work was often grueling, I felt I was contributing to a higher cause. But then things shifted, and I observed the FBI becoming politically weaponized. It felt like there were, in a way, two factions within the bureau.

I genuinely believe that honesty is crucial for living with integrity. This doesn’t mean staying silent when something seems off; it means being willing to speak the truth, regardless of the personal consequences. I’ve seen colleagues who opted for convenience, telling people what they wanted to hear. That’s never been my approach.

FBI 1 consists of agents who join with a sincere commitment to serving the American public. Their focus is on the victims and upholding the Constitution without bias. They tend to work diligently behind the scenes without seeking praise or attention. In contrast, FBI 2 represents those who exploit their authority for political gain. Many of these individuals prioritize their notoriety, holding significant positions or engaging in self-promotion.

It’s not just confined to certain areas or roles; agents embodying FBI 2 can be found throughout the entire organization, showcasing a range of attitudes from arrogance to complete disengagement. Their questionable actions have severely tarnished the bureau’s reputation.

One might argue that the FBI is caught in a kind of civil war. The lines have been drawn: FBI 1 versus FBI 2.

Reflecting on two years of the Biden administration, I really wrestled with my choice to leave the FBI. In some ways, my career had shaped my identity, but I eventually realized it was time to move on in October 2022.

Choosing to follow what I believe is the right path isn’t always straightforward. Sometimes it can feel lonely, and it may conflict with conventional expectations. However, I trust that if I stay true to my convictions, I won’t be misguided. That faith gave me the courage to step away.

It’s disheartening that the situation reached a point where resigning was my best option. Yet, leaving has afforded me the freedom to speak candidly as an independent observer.

As Lincoln once noted, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

In my upcoming book, I delve into the ongoing conflict between FBI 1 and FBI 2. In any struggle, there are both tangible and intangible losses. My time at the bureau gave me a firsthand glimpse of these challenges.

I still experience sorrow when reflecting on the decline of what used to be the leading law enforcement agency. Sadly, I’m not alone in this; there are many like me who felt compelled to leave.

It’s worth noting that two agents lost their lives while pursuing child predators. One of those agents was a close friend of mine, whose remarkable talents and dedication far exceeded what the bureau could offer.

My narrative may not be particularly glamorous, but it is genuine. The battle does persist. Still, I hold onto the hope that a new administration will uplift the values of FBI 1 while addressing the issues within FBI 2.

I sincerely believe that, ultimately, good will prevail. My aim in sharing this story is to prompt change and shed light on what I witnessed within the FBI.
