Former Teacher Sentenced for Sexual Abuse

A former middle school teacher in Texas has been sentenced to over 30 years in prison for sexually abusing a 13-year-old student.

Adriana Roulin, 30, was found guilty by a Webb County jury of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 and received a 33-year prison sentence. Additionally, she was sentenced to 10 years for indecency with a child via sexual contact, and 13 years for having an inappropriate relationship as an educator with a student.

These sentences will run concurrently, and she has also been ordered to pay a fine of $20,000.

The verdict came after a two-day trial in the 341st District Court, where prosecutors presented evidence, including testimonies from six witnesses, text messages, photos, and video recordings.

During the sentencing phase, the victim recounted how the abuse impacted her life, saying it destroyed her friendships, her self-esteem, and almost led to her death, as stated by KGNS.

The victim’s mother also spoke to the jury, attributing her child’s depression and anxiety to Roulin’s actions and highlighting the emotional burden the family had to endure.

She expressed that Roulin was manipulative and should never be allowed to harm other children again, according to KGNS.

The jury took less than two hours to reach a guilty verdict, as reported by the Webb County District Attorney’s Office.

Prior to her arrest, Roulin worked at Antonio Gonzalez Middle School in Laredo, Texas. The investigation commenced on November 27, 2023, following reports from the victim’s parents to the Unified Independent School District Police Department regarding a suspected inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student.

A spokesperson from the Webb County District Attorney’s Office noted that a forensic examination of the victim’s cell phone uncovered electronic communications that were critical in establishing the relationship, thereby supporting the charges against Roulin.

She was arrested the following month and pleaded not guilty to all charges. As of now, it remains unclear whether she intends to file an appeal.
