Kenneth Chesebro, a former attorney for Trump who played a role in formulating an alternative election strategy in 2020, has been denied in a recent ruling from New York.
The Appeal Division Judge Panel of the Mid-Level Court of Appeals stated on Thursday that Chesebro’s guilt in the Georgia investigation regarding attempts to undermine the state’s election results is considered a “serious crime,” warranting disciplinary measures.
The panel noted that Chesebro’s guilty plea to a felony charge of conspiracy to file false documents is “undoubtedly serious.”
“This situation raises questions about the respondent’s integrity and ability to continue practicing law in New York,” the decision highlighted.
Moreover, they remarked that his actions fell short of the “very concept of constitutional democracy,” which he vowed to uphold as an attorney.
“Based on the testimony and evidence presented during the hearing, we conclude that the respondent should be disqualified due to a conviction for a serious crime,” they added.
Chesebro entered a guilty plea in the 2023 Georgia case, which he attempted to challenge, narrowly avoiding joining many other defendants headed to trial for their efforts to retain power after the 2020 presidential election loss.
Trump, facing multiple criminal charges in this matter, saw the case temporarily halted after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was removed from prosecution, prompting her office to appeal the decision.
Chesebro was involved in creating a so-called fake electoral scheme, seeking to establish a slate of electors to replace the legitimate votes for President Biden.
Initially, he faced seven felony counts, including allegations related to state influence and corrupt organizations (RICO), primarily centered on his attempts to coordinate pro-Trump electors.
Alternative electors met in states won by Biden in 2020, including Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Nevada, and Wisconsin. These fake electors claimed they were “just elected,” leading to subsequent criminal charges against some of them.
Chesebro’s legal license in New York was suspended last fall, and he currently faces criminal charges in Wisconsin related to his involvement in the scheme.
Several other Trump lawyers implicated in the alternative election plan are also encountering similar disciplinary actions due to their roles.
