Joe Mitchell Announces Congressional Run in Iowa
Former Iowa Senator Joe Mitchell has declared his candidacy for Congress in the state’s 2nd congressional district.
In a video posted on social media, Mitchell highlighted his background as a former officer at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Trump administration. He also emphasized his efforts in supporting conservative candidates across the country.
“I’m running for Congress because too many Iowans are left behind in the broken political system that works for insiders and lobbyists, not for us,” he stated. “For too long, Washington politicians have wasted taxes and prioritized backroom deals while working families are left to struggle. I will collaborate with President Trump to end reckless spending, secure our borders, support farmers, and revitalize our economy.”
Mitchell is stepping up in place of Congressman Ashley Hinson, who is seeking a Senate seat to fill the position of Senator Joni Ernst after she announced she would not run for reelection, citing family and personal reasons.
Recently, President Trump expressed his endorsement of Hinson, calling her a “winner” and praising her commitment to Iowa.
“I know Ashley well, and she’s a winner! As a loving wife and proud mother, she’s consistently delivered for Iowa and will continue to do so in the U.S. Senate,” Trump remarked. “Ashley Hinson has become an outstanding senator and has my full support. She won’t disappoint you!”
In his announcement, Mitchell underscored his strong connection to Trump, mentioning his intention to support the president’s agenda if elected.
