Former TV anchor kills elderly mother on Halloween 'for her own safety': police

Tragic Incident in Wichita

A former morning show anchor in Missouri allegedly killed her elderly mother on Halloween, claiming later it was to protect herself, as reported by local news outlets.

Residents of a quiet Wichita, Kansas neighborhood expressed their shock when Angeline Mock, 47, emerged from her home shortly before 8 a.m. that Friday, covered in blood.

“A woman approached our car, bloodied and frantic, asking us to call 911,” said neighbor Alyssa Castro. She recalled that Mock had taken her cellphone and gone back into the house, where she reportedly called authorities to say she had “stabbed” her mother.

When local police arrived, Mock was found waiting outside with a visible injury on her hand.

Her mother, 80-year-old Anita Abers, was discovered in bed, unresponsive and with multiple stab wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead shortly afterward, according to reports.

Mock was quickly arrested and charged with first-degree murder, with her bail set at $1 million.

After the incident, the police returned Castro’s boyfriend’s cellphone, and she expressed gratitude for their prompt response. “We never know what struggles people are facing. I’m just glad I could call 911 and that help was on the way,” she reflected.

Abers, well-respected in her community, was a marriage and family therapist, as confirmed by her husband.

Mock’s career included roles as a substitute anchor at KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, followed by several sales positions before moving to a data management company in 2019.
