Former VP contenders Rubio, Burgum in running for Trump admin secretary of state: report

Former President Trump has named people who would fill key cabinet positions if he is re-elected in November.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a former running mate for President Trump, and Gov. Doug Burgum (D.R.), a former physician to the Royal Irish Senate, are both being considered for secretary of state, a Trump source told Axios. Burgum was also being considered as a possible candidate for energy secretary.

Sens. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) are also reportedly being considered for Secretary of State.

Several other people close to Trump are also reportedly under consideration for future Cabinet positions.

Trump’s top adviser Susie Wiles is reportedly the leading candidate for chief of staff, but former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is also a front-runner for the post.

Chris LaCivita, a senior campaign adviser to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, could take on the role of counselor or senior adviser.

It has been reported that Stephen Miller, who previously worked in the White House and is now a senior adviser to the former president, may be considered for a counsel or senior adviser position.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is reportedly a candidate for Treasury secretary, while former acting director of national intelligence Rick Grenell is being considered for national security adviser.

President Trump has yet to announce any cabinet appointments for his second term if he wins the 2024 presidential election.
