Former Washington State University star quarterback Cam Ward announced Saturday that he will play one more season in college, two weeks after declaring for the NFL Draft.
Ward announced his commitment to Miami by posting a photo of himself in a Hurricanes uniform.
“They have a lot of guys coming back on offense and defense,” he told The Athletic. “Given the portal guys they've had coming in and the recruiting class they've had, I easily think Miami can reach the CFP next year.”
Ward announced on New Year's Day in a four-second video that he had declared for the NFL Draft.
However, Miami appears to have done enough to convince him to stay in college for at least one more season.
He threw for 13,876 yards and 119 touchdowns in four seasons in college. He spent his first two years in his ward of the Incarnate before going to Washington State.
At the end of the 2023 season, only six players at the FBS, FACS, Division II and Division III levels had thrown for more yards in their careers.
Ward will likely be Miami's starting QB after Tyler Van Dyke leaves for Wisconsin.
Miami also acquired Albany transfer Reese Poffenberger earlier this month.
He transferred after leading Albany to the FCS playoffs and leading the division with 3,603 passing yards and 36 touchdowns.
Ward threw for 3,736 yards and 25 touchdowns last season.
