On Saturday, Senator Jackson (R-Texas) issued a statement regarding President Trump’s health following the shooting at the rally.
“As reported and witnessed by the whole world, he was shot in the right ear with a high-powered rifle used by the would-be assassins,” he said.
“The bullet wound inflicted a two-centimeter wound down to the cartilage surface of the ear,” Jackson wrote. “There was initially considerable bleeding, and then the entire upper part of the ear became noticeably swollen.”
Mr Jackson thanked the medical staff who first treated Mr Trump at Butler Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania, where a CT scan was performed as part of the examination and said the swelling had since subsided.
Jackson said he met with Trump at the former president’s Bedminster, New Jersey, home on the night of the shooting and has seen him daily since then.
“As former presidential physician to President Donald J. Trump, I was naturally extremely concerned, as was the entire world, about his health following the assassination attempt on the president,” Jackson wrote.
Jackson added that Trump’s injured ear is still bleeding intermittently and “requires bandaging.”
“The wound itself was wide and blunt so no stitches were required.”
Doctors said Trump will undergo further tests as he recovers, including a comprehensive hearing test.
“In summary, former President Trump is doing well and recovering as expected from the gunshot wounds he sustained last Saturday afternoon,” Jackson said. “It is truly a miracle that he did not die.”
The statement came a day after Dr. Anthony Fauci described President Trump’s injury as “superficial” and claimed the bullet “grazed his ear.”
“I don’t think it will go beyond that,” Fauci said. CNNWolf Blitzer on Friday night.
