Shooting in Los Angeles County Leaves Four Hospitalized
Early Sunday morning, a shooting during a street occupation in Los Angeles County resulted in four individuals being hospitalized, according to authorities. This recent wave of violence, associated with illegal gatherings, has intensified scrutiny in the area.
A resident near Rosemead, who was understandably shaken, explained, “I’m definitely moving. It’s scary. I’m from San Marino, but this isn’t the place for me.” She expressed her concern about the chaos with, “It’s noisy, and it feels like I’m getting shot at right now. That’s just ridiculous.”
The shooting occurred at around 2 a.m., with cellphone footage capturing the moment when crowds fled amidst the sound of gunfire. Fortunately, all four victims are expected to recover, authorities have confirmed.
As of now, no arrests have been made. Lt. Alex Lewis from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shared that investigators are compiling evidence by reviewing nearby surveillance footage and witness recordings. “Detectives are actively pursuing leads, analyzing evidence, and interviewing witnesses,” he mentioned.
Lewis emphasized the need for community cooperation: “We want people to alert us before events escalate into a situation that a few deputies can’t manage.” It’s vital that the community reaches out quickly to prevent larger crowds from forming.
This incident follows another tumultuous event near Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles a few weeks ago, where violence erupted, leading to vandalism and a stabbing.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass criticized the rise of such street occupations and urged stricter law enforcement, warning that participants face potential arrests. Although Rosemead is outside the city limits, the shooting has raised alarms among both officials and residents regarding the growing violence.
For those living nearby, the immediate fear of such incidents feels more personal. One resident voiced their anxiety, stating, “This is very scary. I’m not sticking around; I’m moving.”
