Victims Identified in Manhattan Shooting

Four individuals, including police officers from New York City, were tragically identified as victims in a shooting incident in Manhattan on Monday. Among them was Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old security guard, who lost her life while on duty at an office building home to Blackstone and the NFL headquarters.

New York Police Chief Jessica Tish referred to the victims as heroes, emphasizing the sacrifice made by Tamura. “He harmed himself. He made the ultimate sacrifice—shot in cold blood while wearing the uniform he pledged to uphold,” Tish noted during a press conference.

Mayor Eric Adams described Tamura as a lifesaver, expressing that his actions were commendable. “He was doing his best, and every member of the police department was, too. He was protecting New Yorkers,” Adams remarked.

Tamura had served nearly four years in the NYPD and was a father of two young sons, with a third child expected soon. Adams assured the officer’s family, stating, “He is a hero, and we respect the risk he took.” This tragedy struck hard, leading to his Islamic father suffering a stroke following the news, as reported by his cousin.

Wesley Repatner, 43, another victim, was identified by Blackstone. She was a wife and mother of two, actively engaged in her Jewish community, where she held a board position. The New York Federation praised her for her extraordinary contributions, highlighting her recent solidarity mission following the events of October 7, 2023.

Blackstone expressed deep sorrow over losing a beloved member of their team, stating, “Words cannot capture the devastation we feel.” Friends and family also mourned Repatner’s loss, sharing heartfelt memories on social media.

Aland Etienne, 46, worked as a security guard at the location and was recognized by a union official who underscored the everyday sacrifices made by security personnel. Etienne’s partner noted that their son was about to celebrate his seventh birthday.

Tragically, his brother used Facebook to express the family’s profound grief at losing Aland, emphasizing the light he brought into their lives.

Julia Hyman, 27, another victim working at Rudin Property Management, was remembered by her company and the campus community where she graduated. The management expressed devastation over the senseless act that took her life.

Two additional individuals sustained injuries but survived the shooting. President Trump shared his condolences for the families affected, hoping for an understanding of the reasons behind this tragic event.

Although the shooter had a carry permit, the details surrounding the motives remain unclear. Mayor Adams mentioned a memo that suggested the shooter had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and speculated that the individual may have confused elevator banks while trying to reach the NFL headquarters.
