The US has not pledged to take part in the fourth round of denuclearization talks with Iran this weekend, according to the State Department.
“The US never confirmed that people would take part in the fourth round of talks with Iran, which they believed was Saturday in Rome,” spokesman Tammy Bruce said at a press conference Thursday. “We expect another round of consultations to take place in the near future.”
The US took part in consultations with Iranian officials once in Rome and twice in Oman. Envoy Steve Witkov is the chief negotiator of President Donald Trump's desired deal, which prevents Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Omani's Badr bin Hamad al-Busadi posted to X that the country is trying to support the transaction but consultations have been postponed due to “logistical reasons.”
Esmail Baghaei, a spokesman for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Tehran is still committed to reaching a “fair and lasting agreement.”
Iran is trying to lift US sanctions, but Trump's team argued that it would need verifiable evidence that stopped Iran from enriching uranium to lift its financial penalties.

Trump threatened to launch a strike in Iran if talks lie down.
On Wednesday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegses posed an ominous threat to Iran over his support for the Housis.
“Message to Iran: We see fatal support for your Houssis. We know exactly what you're doing,” Hegus wrote to X:
American officials described last week's speech as “positive and productive.”
“There's still a lot to do, but there's been more progress in getting to the deal,” the official said. “We agreed to meet again soon in Europe. We would like to thank our Omani partners for promoting these consultations.”

“This time, negotiations are much more serious than in the past, and we gradually took part in a deeper and more detailed discussion,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci said. “We are not all disagreements resolved, but we are somewhat distant from the broader general discussion. There are differences in both the main issues and the details.”
