Fox News political commentator Britt Hume pushed back against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s claim that “no one had texted” Monday afternoon after news broke that Hegseth and other Trump administration officials had discussed plans for an attack on Yemeni Houty rebels on a text chain that included Atlantic editors.

“No one was texting the war plan. That’s all I have to say about it,” Hume said outside a Hawaiian plane when asked about the editor-in-chief of Jeffrey Goldberg’s Atlantic article.

Hegseth also described a profession that “deceived, very discredited, so-called journalist, who pitched hoaxes over and over again.”

Hume reposted a video of Hegseth’s comments on platform X, saying, “Ah, for God, the administration has already confirmed the credibility of its message.”

Goldberg published a story on Monday detailing his experiences added to group chat on Signal, an encrypted messaging service filled with high-level national security officials who discussed the administration’s plans to attack Yemen’s Houty rebels.

Waltz, Vice President Pence, Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bezek, Director of National Intelligence, Director of the CIA, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe all appear to have been among the participants. Apparently, too, key figures in Trump’s orbit, including White House Chief of Staff Susie Wills and key advisor Stephen Miller.

When asked to comment from National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes, Goldberg replied, “This looks like a real message chain and we are reviewing how careless numbers have been added to the chain.”

Democrats have been sharply criticizing Hegseth following the news, but Republicans have aired concerns, with some asking for an investigation into the case but have stopped calling for action to be taken against those involved.

Soon after the news broke, the Trump White House issued a statement in support of Hegseth and Waltz.

White House press chief Karoline Leavitt said in a statement that Trump “has the greatest confidence in his national security team, including national security adviser Mike Waltz.”

On Monday, Fox News Anchor John Roberts praised Goldberg for the release of the bomb report.

“Perhaps anyone who can text your secret plan is bad,” Roberts told Fox Monday afternoon. “But Goldberg appears to have acted responsibly by writing this article.”
