Breanna Stewart scored 16 points and the U.S. women’s basketball team beat Australia 85-64 on Friday to move closer to an eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal.
The U.S., which has extended its Olympic winning streak to 60, will face France on Sunday as it tries to become the first team to win eight consecutive Olympic gold medals, breaking the record of seven straight victories held by the U.S. men’s team from 1936 to 1968.
“This streak is amazing,” Stewart said after the game. “I was on TV and they said this streak started before I was even born, so that’s pretty amazing.”
