MILWAUKEE — On a night when you thought it couldn't get any worse for the Mets, things got much worse.
Francisco Alvarez appeared to be in pain and left the field in the top of the seventh inning as the Mets defeated the Brewers 7-2 on Friday at American Family Field.
In the top of the 8th inning, Mets announced that he was suffering from back spasms.
The Mets catcher reached first base on a walk, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and dashed to third base as Tyron Taylor grounded out.
Alvarez slid into the base feet first and grabbed his hips.
he yelled, gesturing to the dugout and lying still with a frown on his face.
He got up after about a minute with help, but needed help getting off the field and down the dugout stairs.
Luis Torrence remained in the game as a pinch runner and catcher.
