Francisco Lindor makes encouraging progress in recovery for the Mets

Mets Injuries Update: Signs of Recovery

The Mets are navigating a tough season, but there are signs of hope. Francisco Lindor, who has been out since April 22 due to a left calf strain, was seen throwing ground balls on the field after receiving clearance to resume baseball activities. This is a step forward in his recovery process.

Manager Carlos Mendoza mentioned that Lindor can now run, hit in the cage, and field ground balls, which indicates some progress. However, Mendoza is being cautious, noting that Lindor still has several hurdles to clear before returning to game action.

This month’s updates had initially focused on Lindor needing more time to heal, as he was injured while running the bases. So, this latest news is an encouraging sign, though Mendoza warned it’s still too early for a definitive timeline on his return.

After experiencing a challenging start to the season filled with injuries, the Mets have a bit of positivity with another update: Jared Young, who has been out since April 13 due to a torn meniscus, may be ready to play as soon as Tuesday. Also, reliever AJ Minter, who hasn’t pitched since April 2025, is expected to take the mound this week. Jorge Polanco, limited to just 14 games this season because of Achilles tendon and wrist issues, is set to practice at Citi Field and may begin rehab later in the week. Additionally, Kodai Chiga is slated to throw in the bullpen and start his rehab process soon.

Francisco Alvarez, initially anticipated to be sidelined for eight weeks after a torn right meniscus, has surprised many by already beginning to hit and catch. Just two weeks post-injury, he approached Mendoza and expressed, “I feel like I can go.” Mendoza remarked on Alvarez’s unique physical condition, hinting he might return sooner than expected, though he advised caution.

For the Mets, these potential returns are meaningless unless they translate into actual game play. The team currently finds itself at the bottom of the National League East standings. Yet, on this day, there was at least a flicker of optimism regarding their injured players.
