Free Lyft rides available to Californians to prevent drunk driving this Fourth of July

Residents in California who might have indulged a bit too much during their Independence Day celebrations can get a free ride home to prevent unsafe driving.

In cities like Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Coachella, and Rancho Mirage, locals can take advantage of a free taxi or Lyft ride, promoting safe travel following the Fourth of July festivities.

The Walter Clark Legal Group is stepping in with an initiative that runs from 10 PM on July 4th to 3 AM on July 5th. They’ll cover the cost of the ride as part of their Safe Ride Program.

Walter Clark, the founder of the law firm, acknowledged in a statement that “I, and almost everyone I know, has driven when we shouldn’t have, simply thinking we were fine.” The event aims to counteract that mindset.

The firm offers reimbursement for one one-way trip per household, up to $50, emphasizing that this program motivates drivers to make responsible choices. They have been implementing similar initiatives for over ten years, especially during holidays when road incidents tend to peak.

The free rides are available in several Coachella Valley cities, such as:

  • Palm Springs
  • Palm Desert
  • Cathedral City
  • Desert Hot Springs
  • Rancho Mirage
  • Indian Wells
  • La Quinta
  • Bermuda Dunes
  • Coachella
  • Victor Valley
  • El Centro
  • Yucca Valley
  • Morongo Valley

It’s important to note that participation is limited to drivers aged 21 and older with a valid driver’s license.

So, if you’re celebrating, make sure to stay safe out there. Happy birthday, America!
