House Freedom Caucus Events on Political Violence
The House Freedom Caucus is hosting events this week focused on praying for an end to political violence and for those impacted by the ongoing government shutdown.
Co-led by the Family Research Council, which advocates for Christian public policies, this call to prayer aims to gather both lawmakers and supporters.
Among the expected attendees are House Republicans from the Freedom Caucus, former Trump Cabinet member Ben Carson, and Frank Turek of Turning Point USA—a group recently affected by the death of its founder, Charlie Kirk, in a tragic act of political violence.
In addition to political issues, participants will pray for peace for President Donald Trump, Congress, and Israel. Scheduled for Thursday, this event coincides with the 30th day of the ongoing government shutdown.
It seems there’s no immediate resolution to the fiscal deadlock, as both parties remain firm in their respective positions.
Republicans are looking for a temporary extension of federal spending for the fiscal year 2025 through a Continuing Resolution (CR). This would provide Congress with more time to negotiate a lasting agreement for fiscal year 2026.
There’s also an emphasis on enhancing security spending for Congress, the White House, and the Supreme Court by approximately $88 million, driven by rising political threats.
The Republican proposal passed the House on September 19 with near-unanimous support from Democrats and minimal dissent from Republicans. However, it’s now stalled in the Senate, where several more Democratic votes are required to bypass the filibuster. Democratic leaders are advocating for any funding measures to be linked with extending specific Obamacare subsidies, which are set to expire soon.
Since September 19, Senate Democrats have turned down Republican initiatives multiple times, leaving the situation uncertain.
