French entrepreneur cautions Macron after thieves vandalize five family shops

Looting Victim Issues Stark Warning to Macron

Michèle Teboul, a French business owner whose family suffered significant losses from looting during the recent protests, has issued a grave warning to President Emmanuel Macron. She believes the upcoming protests this Saturday could be crucial for France’s future.

Teboul stated in an interview, “Next Saturday is your last chance to save France.” She emphasized the urgent need for action from both Macron and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, asserting that without adequate response, it could be too late for the nation.

Last week, looters devastated 15 of her family’s stores, leaving five completely destroyed. This loss has shaken her faith in the government’s ability to protect its citizens and businesses.

Interestingly, while her family manages retail locations in several cities including Paris and Marseille, the aftermath has forced her family into difficult decisions regarding their safety. They now face the daunting task of investing in heightened security measures that her insurer demands, which further complicates their recovery.

She expressed frustration, noting that preemptive protections were simply not enough, as thieves used violent means to access secured areas, ultimately causing severe damage. “Five of the most important stores have been looted,” she lamented.

Besides the physical damages, Teboul points out how the situation has fostered a sense of insecurity among business owners, prompting some to hire security personnel or, alarmingly, purchase weapons for protection—though she maintained that her family had not resorted to this. “Some have bought weapons,” she acknowledged, reflecting a growing tension that is certainly not typical for France.

There’s also a broader societal concern at play. Teboul noted that amongst the Jewish community, there’s a rising anxiety, with many contemplating leaving France due to escalating violence. “It’s going to be very hard to imagine a future in France for us, especially for Jews,” she admitted, hoping for a change in the upcoming demonstrations.

She criticized police readiness during the protests, suggesting that authorities misjudged the threat and failed to manage the situation as crowds surged into city centers. Teboul remarked, “They were not enough,” highlighting her belief that the problem transcends individual communities, impacting the entire nation.

As the French government grapples with its shortcomings in handling these events, Teboul’s message is clear—without effective measures to restore safety, the consequences could be dire, possibly even threatening the stability of the current leadership.

In her final remarks, she reiterated the need for security, stating, “We have to feel secure. We don’t feel secure for the moment.” Her hope is for a significant shift following Saturday’s protests that could help heal both her family’s business and the nation as a whole.
