Rumors About Macron’s Conduct on Train Debunked
The French government has publicly dismissed claims that President Emmanuel Macron was using cocaine on a train during a recent trip. These rumors began circulating as Macron traveled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Social media, particularly from far-right and pro-Russian sources, played a significant role in spreading this narrative. Videos were shared that suggested the presence of cocaine among the group, which also included UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Amidst the speculation, some conspiracy theorists even alleged that a “cocaine spoon” was visible in the footage. This particular tool is typically associated with drug use, particularly in nasal consumption.
In light of these accusations, the French presidency, supported by Starmer and Merz, felt it necessary to issue clarifications. They labeled the claims as part of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at undermining European unity. An official statement from the Élysée mentioned, “When European solidarity becomes inconvenient, disinformation is used to tarnish reputations.” The French presidency further emphasized the importance of vigilance regarding such tactics.
Additionally, news surfaced regarding peace negotiations. Initially, an aide to President Vladimir Putin dismissed any ideas for peace talks, but later, Putin expressed a willingness to engage in discussions. He mentioned that serious negotiations with Ukraine are underway, which President Zelensky welcomed as a positive development and a crucial step towards achieving a ceasefire.
