‘Friends’ creators asked Matthew Perry about leaving the show during addiction

It reminds me of Matthew Perry.

“Friends” creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane spoke about the late actor and learning about his addiction while on the show. Times UK It was released on Friday.

“By the time we realized that, we had already become a family in many ways,” said Mr. Crane, 67.

“At one point we said to him: ‘Do you want to stop? [being in the show]?’ And he was adamant: ‘No, this is really important to me,'” Crane recalls.

Perry played Chandler Bing on the hit NBC sitcom, which aired from 1994 to 2004.

In his 2022 memoir “Friends, lovers, and big scary things.” Perry spoke about her addiction and how it affected her performance on Friends.

“By weighing myself seasonally, you can track the trajectory of my addiction,” Perry writes in his book.

“When I’m fat, it’s alcohol, when I’m thin, it’s drugs. beardthe a lot “I’m on a lot of medication,” he said.

Perry said one of the people in rehab was Chandler and Monica Geller’s wedding photoshoot (Courteney Cox). He revealed that immediately after the scene was finished, he was “taken to the treatment center in a pickup truck driven by a sober technician.”

The late star also said that season 9 was the only season he watched completely sober.

In the book, Perry says he went to rehab 15 times and underwent 14 surgeries to reduce damage to his stomach lining caused by alcohol and opioid use, and estimates he’s spent about $9 million to get sober.

In October 2023, the “17 Again” star was found dead in his hot tub at home at age 54 from an overdose of ketamine.

Kaufman, 67, told The Times UK that before Perry’s death, she was the one with whom she “had the most contact” out of the six Friends stars.

“About two weeks ago [he died] He and I were talking on FaceTime and he seemed really good,” she said.

Kaufman continued: “Two things come to mind. [about how to celebrate him]: One is to donate to a drug treatment center. Fight the disease. And the other is to watch “Friends.” And please remember him not as the guy who died like that, but as the guy who was so funny and brought so much joy to everyone.”

On Thursday, Perry’s live-in assistant Kenneth Iwamasa and four others were indicted in connection with the actor’s death.

The assistant told authorities he gave his boss at least 27 ketamine injections in the last five days of his life alone, including the final three that prosecutors say resulted in “death and serious injury.”

Iwamasa was indicted along with two doctors, Salvador Plascencia and Mark Chavez, suspected street dealer Eric Fleming and Jasveen Sangha, known as the “Ketamine Queen of Los Angeles.”

Plascencia and Sangha are both charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine in connection with Perry’s death.

Fleming, Iwamasa and Chavez entered into plea agreements in exchange for pleading guilty to various charges, including conspiracy to distribute ketamine and conspiracy to distribute ketamine resulting in death.
