Friends of Charlie Kirk clarify misleading clips regarding the deceased icon

Friends of Charlie Kirk are pushing back against criticisms aimed at the deceased conservative activist, claiming that his detractors are misrepresenting his past remarks. Those close to Kirk are determined to “support him and set the record straight.”

A recent episode of The Charlie Kirk Show tackled misleading clips of Kirk that have circulated, particularly after his assassination on September 10, which targeted him as the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA). Andrew Corbett, the show’s executive producer, emphasized the importance of clarifying these left-wing clips, noting that there are straightforward explanations behind them.

A notable clip that has drawn criticism suggested Kirk’s comments hinted at racism when he remarked he might look at a black pilot and think, “I hope he’s qualified.” Corbett clarified that Kirk was responding to United Airlines’ announcement about increasing diversity among pilot hires, stating that only 9% of new applicants are women or people of color. Kirk was concerned about how to achieve a 50% target from such a small pool without compromising standards.

Corbett elaborated, “When I see black pilots, I think, ‘You had to compete to be the best.’ That’s something to celebrate.” This viewpoint aligns with Kirk’s belief in meritocracy, as Corbett explained that he was passionate about rewarding individuals based purely on their abilities.

In a segment of the show, they debunked claims that Kirk endorsed gun violence to safeguard the Second Amendment and addressed various moments that critics interpreted negatively. Corbett, alongside Kirk’s friends Tyler Bowyer, Jack Posobiec, and Blake Neff, spent about 90 minutes challenging the misrepresentation of Kirk’s views.

“Charlie was a conservative and obviously, he didn’t expect progressives to align with his views,” Corbett mentioned. He expressed frustration that people would try to manipulate Kirk’s statements to argue that he deserved his fate, calling it a serious injustice. He also shared that Kirk embodied kindness and loyalty, both in public and private life.

Corbett expressed his commitment to defending Kirk’s legacy, declaring, “We will continue to denounce lies wherever we find them.”
