While appearing in Podcast “Minnie’s Questions” On Wednesday, Cox opened up about the “really intense” moment and explained why it ultimately strengthened their relationship.
“We broke up during therapy. I never thought this would happen,” said Cox, who first started dating. “Snow Patrol”” She became a singer in 2013 after being introduced by a mutual friend, Ed Sheeran.

“We went to see this therapist to talk about our limitations. [and] What we can and cannot accept about each other,” the “Friends” alum added.
But Cox said McDade had other plans and called off the engagement “within the first minute” of their meeting.

“I was like, ‘What?'” she said. “I was in such shock. I felt so much pain. I don’t like surprises either. And he’s a wonderful person, so I wasn’t trying to surprise him. He was in so much pain in his relationships. .”
“There was so much to deal with that he had to be protective around his heart,” she said. “So, as opposed to going into this angry mode and saying, ‘Fuck that guy,’ I leaned back and worked on myself the most I’ve ever done.”

In the end, that particular therapy session was a positive turning point in the duo’s relationship.

“I’m really grateful for that breakup, because when we got back we had a different relationship, but it really taught me how to act in the world… “What did I need as a child?” she said. she said on the podcast. “I learned how to reclaim my voice, my boundaries, my motivation in life – my role in this.”
Cox and McDade have been dating since 2013 and got engaged in 2014. Although they announced that they had broken off their engagement in 2019, they continued to date.
Last year, the duo celebrated a major milestone: their 10th anniversary.
