Investigation Into Fatal Stabbing of Texas High School Student
The investigation into the deadly stabbing of Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old high school student in Frisco, Texas, is ongoing, and the school district has confirmed that surveillance footage exists from the incident.
The Frisco Independent School District disclosed to a news outlet that they possess footage of the stabbing, which took place at Kuykendall Stadium on April 2, but they have not yet made the video public.
The confrontation involved Metcalf, a student at Memorial High School, and another 17-year-old student, Carmelo Anthony, from Frisco Centennial High School, during a delay in the regional athletics championships due to rain.
Anthony has been charged with first-degree murder.
According to authorities, he fatally stabbed Metcalf in the chest. It appears that the two students had no prior interactions, and their argument escalated quickly.
An arrest report obtained reveals that the argument began when Metcalf allegedly asked Anthony to leave the commemorative team tent. Witnesses informed police that just before the stabbing, Anthony had made a threatening remark, saying, “touch me and see what happens.”
Metcalf reportedly stood up and pushed Anthony out of the tent, after which Anthony claimed he reached into his bag, extracted a knife, and stabbed Metcalf.
Witnesses stated they left the scene following the altercation.
Tragically, Metcalf succumbed to his injuries while in the arms of his twin brothers.
After the stabbing, Anthony was arrested on site and charged with first-degree murder. He and his advocates argue that he was acting in self-defense, contending Metcalf had provoked him. Initially, his bond was set at $1 million but was later reduced to $250,000.
His release is contingent upon conditions including home arrest and an ankle monitor, meaning he can only leave his residence with judicial approval.
