After his historic election victory last November, President Trump nominated his loyal ally, Rep. Elise Stefanik (RN.Y.) as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Of all his nominations, Stefanik faced the most opposition and most opposition at the Senate confirmation hearing.
But last week, Trump drew her nomination for fear that Stefanik's House seat would be replaced by Democrats in a special election. The GOP holds a majority of the razor-thin house (218-213) after the seating vacancies in January 2025, and losing the vote could put his legislative agenda very well.
“Is this the right move from the Trump administration?” Jill Savage, host of “Blaze News Tonight,” asks Christopher Bedford, a senior political editor at Blaze Media and Washington correspondent.

Bedford's answer is loud.
The UN ambassador is “a kind of meaningless job,” he says. “All points at the United Nations in New York can liquefy foreign diplomats and leaders, drink on tape and video, then go back later and say, “Hey, I saw six prostitutes in a hotel room and a pile of cokes, so my wife doesn't want to see it.” ”
Still, he feels bad for Stefanik. The positions are certainly “footing stones” and “cool resumes.”
But much more important is the majority of the GOP home and if the numbers are currently standing, Trump cannot afford to lose Stefanik's vote.
“It comes down to the reality that we're giving Republicans more breathing chambers, especially for this budget fight that's expected in the coming weeks,” Bedford says.
“So who gets it [the position] now? “I ask Prime Minister Matthew Peterson's Blaze News editor.
“Maybe Ron DeSantis – I know someone who isn't necessarily Trump's ally, but it's good to bring them on the team, but it's good to stand by on the sidelines at the same time,” Bedford says.
