Frozen vegetables pulled from shelves in several states due to contamination concerns

A company based in New York has issued a recall for several frozen vegetable products after samples taken in Pennsylvania tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can lead to serious illness.

The affected items include 2.5-pound bags of frozen peas and carrots, as well as frozen mixed vegetables, all distributed by Endico Potatoes Inc., located in Mount Vernon.

According to a statement from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), these products were sent to stores in states such as New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, Washington, DC, and Florida starting on July 18, 2025.

In light of the positive test results, Endico has paused the distribution of its frozen vegetables, and both the company and the FDA are investigating what might have caused the contamination.

Shoppers who may have these products in their freezers are advised to check for the following lot numbers:

  • Peas and Carrots: Lot 110625, production date 6/11/25, expiration 6/10/27
  • Mixed Vegetables: Lot 170625, production date 6/17/25, expiration 6/16/27

As noted by the FDA, Listeria monocytogenes can survive freezing temperatures, posing a risk of two forms of illness linked to the bacteria. The less severe version, gastrointestinal listeriosis, can cause symptoms like fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, typically lasting 1 to 3 days.

The more severe, invasive listeriosis can lead to symptoms such as headaches, stiff neck, confusion, and cramps, and is particularly dangerous for newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women should also be cautious, as listeriosis can result in severe complications like miscarriage or stillbirth. Anyone concerned about possible exposure should reach out to their healthcare provider.

As of now, the FDA has reported no confirmed cases related to this recall.

Customers who bought the recalled Endico products can return them to the store for a full refund. For any inquiries, the company can be reached at 1-800-431-1398.
