FSU shooting victim’s family wants answers, transparency: attorneys

The attorney for the family of Tiru Chabba, one of two men killed in a mass shooting at Florida State University last month, is calling for a transparent investigation as many questions surrounding the violence are still being answered.

Strom Law's national civil rights lawyers and his colleagues, Jim Bannister and J Robert Bell III, held a press conference on university campus on Wednesday seeking responses to Chabba's death.

“The reason we are here today is because Chava's family wants not only to want individuals to know a sense of sincere gratitude, but also to seek thorough and transparent research,” the seller said. “We believe it is necessary for healing.”

Chava was on the FSU campus where he worked as a campus vendor employee during the mass shooting at Tallahassee School just before noon on April 17th. He was a 45-year-old father from Greenville, South Carolina. He is survived by his wife and two children.

“When you lose your father and have a child, you can't explain why,” the seller said. “When Dad goes on a business trip, they're supposed to go home.”

Sellers thanked law enforcement Gov. Ron DeSantis and the university and its president, Richard McCullough.

The seller said the Chava family wanted accountability in the criminal process and wanted answers about the shooter's motives and how he won the firearm.

“We are looking for accountability from the university and see what we could have done to prevent it, if any, and to prevent this from happening in the future,” he said.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, McCullough told Fox News Digital that he appreciated the lawyer's words.

“Me and everyone else in Florida share the sadness of their families,” McCullough said. “We share their rage. We share their desire for answers. We can assure you that Florida State is fully cooperating with law enforcement. We look forward to the day when all the facts are known.”
