A fundraiser supporting a former Mississippi State University student, accused of shouting anti-Semitic remarks at Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, has surpassed $36,000 in donations.
Patrick McClintock, who is 20, faced charges for disturbing the peace after a video surfaced showing him yelling “Jews” on November 7, outside a Starkville pizza place that Portnoy was visiting.
According to the Starkville Police Department, they initiated an investigation after the video went viral, revealing people making anti-Semitic comments and tossing coins at Portnoy.
On Monday, McClintock was officially charged with a misdemeanor for disturbing the peace. He was processed and released by police on the same day.
The Starkville Police Department stated, “Everyone has the right to feel safe and respected in our community. While only offensive words are protected, disorderly conduct is not.” They added that they would take necessary measures to ensure safety during public events.
As of Thursday afternoon, a GiveSendGo fundraiser called “DEFEND PATRICK MCCLINTOCK” had raised $36,245. The fundraiser described McClintock as “a 20-year-old American patriot” who was arrested for what they called a “profane term ‘crime’.”
During the incident, Portnoy, who is Jewish, was filming a pizza review when McClintock was allegedly heard shouting, “Hey, you Jew, Dave!”
Responding to McClintock’s comments, Portnoy asked, “Would you like to come on camera, buddy?” McClintock then shot back, “Get them out of Starkville,” prompting intervention from Portnoy’s security personnel.
As a result, McClintock decided to withdraw from Mississippi State University, as confirmed by a school representative.
