GA Nursing Student Found Dead on Campus Has Been Identified

The body of a nursing student was found on the University of Georgia (UGA) campus on Thursday, and police were searching for a suspect in the incident, it was revealed.

According to UGA, the young man identified 22-year-old Laken Hope Riley, who attended Augusta University, Fox 5 reported Friday.

News Nation’s Brian Entin Said Authorities were still searching for the suspect as of early Friday morning. He also noted that this young woman had previously graduated from UGA and continued her nursing studies at Augusta University.

According to the Fox article, the UGA Police Department received a report from Riley’s friend shortly after noon Thursday that Riley went missing after going for a jog near the school’s athletic fields.

Officers began searching for the young woman and eventually found her body in a wooded area near Herrick Lake around 12:38 p.m.

UGA Police were assisted by Athens-Clarke County Police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) in the ongoing investigation. He held a press conference Thursday night and revealed the victim was a nursing student at Augusta University. Authorities reassured the public that efforts were underway to locate the perpetrators and stressed there was no “imminent threat” to the community. Riley’s cause of death has not been disclosed.

Authorities said the young woman’s body had “visible injuries” i doubt it Atlanta News First reported Friday that there was foul play in her death.

“The University of Georgia Police Chief told reporters last night that there were no suspects, but that they would use all means possible to investigate this incident,” the newspaper reported.

“I run a lot, so we were just talking about going to the park here and checking it out and going for a little run or a walk around the neighborhood,” one young woman explained.

“But now that I’ve heard all these stories, I don’t feel safe anywhere,” she added.

In an update Friday, Fox reported that law enforcement officials had set up a mobile command post outside an apartment complex near the lake.
