Gabbard: Zelensky’s 'immediate escalation' during White House meeting created 'huge rift' in relationship

National Intelligence Director Tarsi Gabbard said he created an “immediate escalation” for Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky during a White House meeting with President Trump.

Gabbard joined Fox News Sunday, where he was overwhelmed by a fiery meeting between two leaders who worked to negotiate the end of the war with Russia.

“I can tell you, there were many conversations that were happening through different envoys in both Zelensky and President Trump. I visited his oval office and there was an immediate escalation of President Zelensky… I was quite surprised, frankly,” Gabbard said. “This created a huge rift in the relationship.”

Gabbard slams Zelensky for how he handled the situation with Trump. She argued that even if Zelensky led to World War III, he would only accept the deal that led to “what he considers as a victory for Ukraine.”

“President Trump is committed to peace and freedom,” she said. “Here we see this great divergence between his position and his commitment to these values and the interests of the American people and the interests of President Zelensky and those of these European leaders.”

Trump and Zelensky's relationship has been getting worse in recent weeks as Trump approached Russian President Vladimir Putin and called Zelensky a dictator.

“President Trump recognizes the urgent need to end this war after three long, bloody years, and has proven he is the only person who can do this,” Gabbard said. “President Zelensky has a variety of purposes in mind.”
