Tragic Loss at Livingston College: Gabriela Muñoz Passes Away at 19

Livingston College has announced the untimely death of Gabriela Muñoz, a significant member of the campus community, at just 19 years old.

Muñoz, hailing from Katy, Texas, passed away in her home state, though the details surrounding her death have not been shared.

In a statement, the college expressed its sorrow: “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved student-athlete, Gabriela Muñoz, a rising junior and cherished member of the Blue Bear Softball family.”

Gabriela was recognized as a great representative of Livingston College.

As a sophomore utility player and pitcher for the Division II program, she made her mark by appearing in 27 games last season, starting one. She recorded a batting average of .333, scoring two runs and achieving two RBIs, along with nine strikeouts and a 5.33 ERA over 27 innings. Her record in the circle was 1 win and 2 losses.

The college emphasized her athletic prowess but highlighted that it was her cheerful nature, gentle spirit, and authentic kindness that truly distinguished her.

Softball coach Steve Wallace shared his heartache over her passing, stating he was “completely heartbroken” and grateful to have had the chance to coach her. “A great athlete and an even better student,” he reflected. “The show will miss her greatly, and her absence will be profoundly felt.”

Last year, Muñoz achieved a 4.0 GPA and was honored on the Dean’s List for both semesters.

She is survived by her parents and two siblings, as detailed in an online obituary.

In light of this tragedy, Livingston College has committed to offering “counseling and support resources” for students affected by the loss.

“Gabriella’s time with us was too short,” the college noted, “but her impact will be long-lasting. She leaves behind a legacy of academic excellence, athleticism, unwavering kindness, and Blue Bear pride that will inspire our community for years to come.”
