Tragic Death of Stick Run Creator Manuel Otto
Manuel Otto, a German influencer known for creating the widely played multiplayer game Stick Run, has passed away at the age of 30 after a devastating incident during a Twitch livestream.
According to reports, Otto, whose full name was Marc-Manuel Alexander Otto, took his own life while streaming on Twitch this week. Local media outlet PNP stated that his body was discovered following a fire at a property in Bavaria, Germany. A neighbor attempted to extinguish the flames upon noticing the blaze.
Twitch has since removed the livestream and the related video. A spokesperson for the platform expressed deep concern, stating, “What took place is horrible, and the mental health and wellbeing of our community matters deeply to us.” They also mentioned that Twitch acted swiftly to take down the channel and video to prevent further viewings. Furthermore, the platform encouraged individuals facing difficulties to seek support and highlighted available resources for connecting with local mental health services.
Footage from the stream, which can be located by searching for “Stick Run” or his name on X, depicts Otto in feminine attire before he lays on a couch and ignites himself.
Otto developed Stick Run at just 14 years old and released it as a free-to-play game on Facebook back in 2010. Since then, over 43 million players globally have enjoyed the game on various devices, as reported by Dexerto.
The Stick Run account on X shared a message on Monday acknowledging the tragic livestream event: “Stick Run is aware of a livestream on Twitch involving its creator and owner, Manuel Otto, in which he appeared to have taken his own life. We understand that Twitch has since removed the livestream and associated video.” They also urged the community to avoid spreading unverified rumors and invited anyone who has information about the incident to reach out to them or local law enforcement.
On Tuesday, Stick Run released a follow-up statement confirming Otto’s death: “It is with a heavy heart that we confirm and announce the passing of our creator, developer, and fellow Stick Runner, Marc-Manuel Alexander Otto.”
