Newsom Critiques Trump’s Davos Speech

California Governor Gavin Newsom didn’t hold back when addressing President Trump’s recent address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, labeling it as “extremely boring.”

During his speech, Trump mentioned that he wouldn’t resort to force to take Greenland, but Newsom brushed it off as an empty promise. “Honestly, it came off as surprisingly trivial,” he remarked. “There was never any serious intent to invade Greenland. It just wasn’t a realistic idea.”

In a broader critique, Newsom urged global leaders to stand firm against Trump, noting that several had expressed appreciation for his comments. “They needed to hear those things,” he stated, encouraging European leaders to be more assertive against the U.S. president’s claims concerning the Danish territory.

“It’s time to stand up. It’s time to get serious and stop colluding with these ridiculous threats,” he emphasized, suggesting that the stakes are too high for complacency.

This latest exchange is part of the ongoing back-and-forth between Newsom and Trump, particularly as discussions about potential presidential runs for 2028 unfold among prominent Democrats.

A reporter casually asked Newsom about Trump’s frequent mentions of “Iceland” while discussing Greenland, to which Newsom simply replied, “Iceland.”

Newsom further commented, “None of this is normal. There’s a noticeable deviation in his perspective. He’s really out of step.” Later, he shared a post on X outlining his concerns about the state of the country under Trump, pointing out issues such as rising unemployment and stagnating job growth.

In response, Trump held a press conference touting job gains and a solid economy, highlighting the claims of his administration’s achievements just as he marked one year into his second term.
