Gavin Newsom criticizes Trump in his Fourth of July speech

Newsom’s Independence Day Address Focuses on Trump

California Governor Gavin Newsom delivered a much-anticipated speech on the Fourth of July, dedicating nearly all eight minutes to addressing U.S. President Donald Trump.

This address, coming as Newsom eyes a potential presidential run, seemed aimed at countering Trump’s assertions regarding the legitimacy of California’s election processes.

However, instead of a substantive policy discussion, the governor opted for personal critiques of the president.

Newsom asserted that Trump harbors fears about the upcoming November midterm elections. “The American people are going to vote, and President Trump knows what’s coming,” he stated.

He went on to say, “And he’s afraid for himself because he knows that. He doesn’t care about you, he doesn’t care about America, and he hardly cares about his political party.”

Throughout the speech, Newsom criticized Trump over corruption allegations. Ironically, he and his wife are also under investigation by the Justice Department.

“He increased his personal fortune by over $4 billion while supposedly in a public trust,” Newsom pointed out regarding Trump. “He claimed he would step away from his businesses, yet he continued to benefit financially.”

Furthermore, Newsom claimed, “He is undermining America’s concept of self-government in ways no king or foreign entity has ever managed.”

As the speech progressed, Newsom elaborated on Trump’s actions following the 2020 election and the events of January 6th. He addressed instances where the president activated the National Guard in response to protests.

Newsom also criticized the Supreme Court for not adequately opposing the Trump administration.

He concluded by asserting that Trump doesn’t accept defeat gracefully, saying, “He grabs every lever of power he can, resorting to lies and deceit to maintain control.”

In a historical context, Newsom likened the struggle against Trump’s influence to significant movements in American history, like women’s suffrage and the civil rights movement.

The California Post has reached out to the White House for any response.
