A video was released Thursday of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Executive Director Nihad Awad celebrating the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack in Israel that killed 1,200 people and took more than 240 hostages. Ta.
Mr. Awad's speech at the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) convention in Chicago on November 24 was reported at the time but largely ignored. This information resurfaced on Thursday when it was shared by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) organized a meeting with Governor Gavin Newsom and Islamic leaders from around the state before the holidays to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Attendees included representatives from the Islamic Council of Northern California, the Palestinian American Medical Association, the West Valley Islamic Association, the Western Islamic Student Association, and the Southern California Shura Council.
A statement attributed to CAIR California CEO Hassam Ailush said:
“As the violent siege in Gaza continues, the governor’s commitment to giving a voice to Muslim, Palestinian and Arab voters and CAIR-CA’s active role in the administration to ensure the dignity of Palestinians We were happy to have a platform to make this request.
“Governor Newsom has blazed a trail as a champion of the civil rights movement during his time in office, and we urge him to continue to be a leader of Californians who overwhelmingly demand a ceasefire.”

Ailush also downplayed Hamas's attack on Israel, the deadliest attack in the Jewish state's history. In a November sermon at the Corona Norco Islamic Society, he claimed it was a “lie” that Hamas' invasion of Israel was an “unprovoked attack,” the Washington Free Beacon reported.
“If I heard those words again, I would go crazy,” Ailush said. “What dictionary has this baseless thing written in?”
The White House severed ties with CAIR in the wake of Awad's comments, but previously worked with CAIR to water down the national anti-Semitism “strategy” and to reduce the Trump administration's extreme anti-Israel rhetoric to anti-Semitic The definition of “practical” was deleted.
Mr. Newsom supports Israel during the war and has traveled to Israel to visit victims of Hamas terrorist attacks.
