California Gov. Gavin Newsom, d., announced Thursday that his state should pay more by government efficiency (DOGE) than cutting federal American volunteer programs.
Americaorps was founded by President Bill Clinton and provided volunteer opportunities in American soil (The Peace Corps, founded under President John F. Kennedy, focuses on volunteer services overseas).
Elon Musk’s Doge was made cut This week, half of Americaorps’ 600 employees had already accepted a voluntary retirement package, before entering the program. Many volunteers across the country have also been let go of their agents.
Newsom argued that Americaorps volunteers are essential in their response to the recent California wildfires.

Newsom is seeking the federal government for a $40 billion Wildfire Relief Aid, and had to borrow more than $6 billion this month just to fund California’s Medicaid version of Medi-Cal. However, he recently signed a $50 million expenditure on the law to fund a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s national policy, providing legal services to illegal foreigners that the Trump administration has determined would be deported.
Newsam announcement Earlier this week, California sued President Donald Trump for his tariff policy, claiming it was hurting California businesses. He held a remote press conference in Stanislaus County, but did not receive any remote questions from reporters, nor did he explain why he believed California had legal status to sue the federal government for indirect damages from international commercial policies.
