Gavin Newsom Tells Jimmy Kimmel That a 'Blue Tsunami' Will Change Trump's Presidency Significantly

Newsom Predicts a “Blue Tsunami” in Upcoming Midterms

California Governor Gavin Newsom shared his insights with late-night host Jimmy Kimmel regarding the midterm elections, forecasting a significant shift in political power.

During his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Newsom stated, “Donald Trump has a sell-by date in six days when his presidency ends as we know it.”

He continued, “This is going to be a blue tsunami. I’m not asserting something that you can’t see the evidence for. Early voting is at an all-time high. The energy is palpable. People clearly understand what’s at stake. Everything is on the line. Our founding fathers, they really lived and died for this moment.”

Newsom expressed uncertainty about whether Democrats will also secure a majority in the U.S. Senate, mentioning, “It’s a legitimate open question about the Senate. But the House of Representatives is a fait accompli. Finally, we’ll reinstate a co-equal branch of government, not a Congress that just rolls over like we see today.”

As Kimmel voiced concerns about how the administration might react to the midterm results, Newsom emphasized the importance of voter turnout. He warned, “We see what he’s doing daily to literally suppress the vote, setting conditions where he’ll express doubt in the electoral outcome. The only way to counter that is with a solid margin. If we have a big enough margin in these races, he cannot contest them.”

Later, Newsom discussed how his relationship with Trump transformed during the latter’s presidency. He reminisced, “In Trump 1.0, I probably spoke to him weekly. Our last conversation lasted almost 20 minutes and was just him going off on a tangent. He wasn’t even discussing film tax credits but rather tariffs on films globally. He’s completely incurious. Not one question, no curiosity.”

Concluding his thoughts, Newsom remarked, “This is different. He’s not just joking around. There’s a ruthlessness about Donald Trump. So with all due respect to my party, the Democratic Party, for change to happen, we need to adapt. We’ve got to be more ruthless ourselves.”
