It started as a joke between the two of them while they were looking at wedding venues. Can you imagine a Mar-a-Lago wedding? ”
The National Log Cabin Republicans, a gay rights advocacy group, has previously held a gala at Mar-a-Lago twice, in 2020 and again in 2022, so it’s a “social” move. We decided to see if there would be a wedding in the area. possibility. “
John Sullivan and Dan Medora reached out to their close friends Bill White and Brian Eure, members of Mar-a-Lago, and then reached out to former President Donald Trump and his team. , they happily granted the couple’s request. The next day, I got a call from Mar-a-Lago’s director of catering. “Can we talk about the date?” she said.
“It rolled out so quickly. Again, it didn’t really catch our eye at first, but we were obviously really, really, really excited and grateful to be able to do it there. ” said Sullivan, vice chairman and treasurer of the Tennessee Log Cabin Republican Party.
In a recent interview with Breitbart News, they shared exclusive details and photos from behind the scenes of what they called their “perfect wedding.”
Mar-a-Lago is “very luxurious, it reminds you of a castle…When you walk in for the first time, it’s kind of awe-inspiring,” Sullivan said. “It’s overwhelming and just amazing.”
“The sun set during the ceremony, and it just made for the most amazing photos. And it was just a gorgeous setting,” he added. “It truly was a wedding that exceeded our dreams.”
To make matters worse, they ended up meeting briefly with President Trump the next day while having dinner with his family.

Trump had just returned from the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). “So he walks past. He looks over and says, ‘Hello, everyone, nice to meet you.’ And I said, “President Trump, I just want to say thank you for letting us have our beautiful wedding at Mar-a-Lago,” Sullivan said.
“And he stopped right away… turned around and looked at us and said, ‘Was that last night?’ And we said, ‘Yes, last night, sir.’ And he said, “So, was everything perfect?” Was everything beautiful? We said, “Yes, that’s true.” I couldn’t imagine anything better. ”
The staff were also very warm and friendly, and they told me stories about Mr. Trump.
“I got to know a lot of people, and when we actually held the ceremony, [as we were] All the staff were lined up and smiling as they prepared to go down the stairs. And they congratulated us all weekend after that,” Sullivan said.
“They shared many personal stories about their experiences with President Trump and how he interacted with them, saying, ‘You can’t see beyond the lies people tell about Trump and get to know the real person. It’s a shame.’ We value people,” he added.
“It definitely shows that this is not a place of discrimination.”
They said they were not at all surprised that Trump approved the marriage, given his past support for the gay community.
“We know the president has a consistent history of supporting gay people,” Sullivan said. He said President Trump’s support for gays goes back to 1985, when he first bought Mar-a-Lago. He said:
He owned the property as a residence, but decided to turn it into a private club in Palm Beach. It was kind of a dirty secret in Palm Beach at the time. [that] All the private clubs excluded African Americans, excluded Jews, excluded homosexuals. This wasn’t documented anywhere, it was all that was known throughout the community. From the first day President Trump opened the club, it was open to everyone, regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender, etc.
“President Trump has consistently supported the gay community,” he added.
Sullivan also noted that President Trump was the first president to be elected in support of same-sex marriage, and that he appointed Richard Grenell to the first openly gay White House Cabinet. He cited a number of things President Trump has done to support the gay community, including appointing several Cabinet members. An openly gay judge.
“He’s a friend of gay people. He supports the LGBT community. He’s been consistent about that. So we look forward to seeing what he can do when he becomes president in 2025. “I’m doing it,” he said.
They said the experience was an eye-opener for friends and family members with whom they disagree politically and who had heard that President Trump was a “horrible” person who “haters gays.” . Sullivan said:
What was very, very special to watch was probably having a different perspective on things and thinking, “Oh my god, I can’t believe these people are gay and decided to get married in 2019.” There were people there. “Mar-a-Lago” – To see the whole story of how they were sold for years after hearing that President Trump was a mean, awful man and hated gays. [be] It was dismantled. It was really gratifying to see some people’s eyes opened through this really special time.
They said they have experienced hate from the ironically gay left since their marriage.
“Many of the most negative and offensive comments come from others in the gay community,” Medora said. “They preach so many things like acceptance, inclusion, diversity, and that everyone is different. All they want to do is participate and be accepted, love who they like, and do what they like. It’s unfortunate to see some of the meanest comments and most negative opinions come from groups that say they’re allowed to do things.”
Sullivan added, “What the Democratic Party, the left, seems to have to offer right now is just to divide people, to pit them into groups against each other, to find small differences of opinion on issues, and to All you have to do is try,” he added. To divide people. ”
“What they can offer is [is] Just tell them that if you come with us and believe that you agree 100 percent with us, you can be part of our group,” he said.
Trump, however, said he “wants what’s best for all Americans, even those who hate him.” “I hope people take a little bit of that out of this experience that we were able to have a wedding there.”
“We are so grateful to have had our dream wedding. We are grateful to our friends Bill and Brian for helping make it possible and we are grateful to our guests for helping us make it possible. I am very grateful to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for allowing me to host them. It was just the most surreal experience and one that none of us will ever forget.”
