Gaza boy discovered safe following false death report

Boy Thought Dead in Gaza Found Alive

A young boy from Gaza, previously believed to have been killed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), has been located alive and in hiding with his mother. The boy, named Abdul Rahim Muhammad Hamden, known as Abd, is eight years old, turning nine in October. They were safely extracted from Gaza earlier this month, but their current location is kept secret for security reasons.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) initiated a large-scale operation to confirm the boy’s identity, following revelations from Anthony Aguilar, a former GHF employee and retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel.

According to an exclusive video, the boy initially thought to be dead appears alive, prompting widespread attention. Aguilar provided images, framing his interaction with Abd as meaningful, including moments where the boy expressed gratitude.

However, GHF challenged Aguilar’s account, pointing out inconsistencies in his statements regarding the interaction. There were disputes over details about the events leading up to what Aguilar described as a tragic incident involving the boy.

In the aftermath, there were conflicting narratives. Aguilar, recounting events from a July incident, claimed that civilians were forcibly expelled from a GHF site, leading to chaos and violence. He alleged that the IDF opened fire during this unrest, resulting in casualties, including Abd.

Conversely, GHF representatives noted that there were no reports of such violence at the alleged times or locations Aguilar mentioned. This discrepancy has raised questions about Aguilar’s reliability as a source.

A late September update revealed the boy was safe in a different country, confirming that he and his mother had escaped Gaza. They had been hiding following familial disputes regarding custody, complicated by local political tensions.

GHF convinced local families to assist in finding Abd through careful negotiation, helping to reconnect him with his mother.

Aguilar has since faced scrutiny for his claims. GHF spokespersons characterized him as a disgruntled former employee with an agenda. Aguilar, in his defense, insists that he merely seeks the truth and has not been able to verify the boy’s status due to military restrictions.

In conclusion, this incident continues to unfold amid a backdrop of contradictory accounts and the ongoing conflict in the region, leaving many unanswered questions about the circumstances surrounding Abd’s story.
