‘General Feeling Is Relief’: Democrats Have Varied Reactions to David Hogg’s Removal from the DNC

A mix of reactions emerged among Democrats following the removal of former DNC vice-chairman David Hogg from his position.

On Wednesday, the DNC voted to oust Hogg, citing procedural concerns, and they requested he consider running again. Shortly after the decision, Hogg announced on social media that he wouldn’t be pursuing reelection as a sub-chair for the DNC.

In his post, Hogg shared, “Ultimately, I’ve decided not to compete in this next election, so the party can focus on what’s really important. We need the right leadership to continue building a powerful party.”

Some members expressed disappointment over Hogg’s departure, while others seemed relieved. It seems there was just… well, a bit of a divide in opinions, perhaps?

One DNC member noted a general sense of relief in finally moving past distractions and focusing on essential work. John Verdejo, from North Carolina’s DNC, admitted he was shocked by Hogg’s decision not to seek reelection, expressing his surprise after the votes were cast.

Conversely, Howard Chow from Colorado’s DNC mentioned he felt indifferent about Hogg’s choice to step back, but acknowledged it as a loss for the committee. He described a hint of disappointment over losing Hogg’s energy and leadership.

A member from South Carolina, Clay Middleton, pointed out that Hogg’s participation could have possibly alleviated certain questions. Hogg stirred controversy within his own party after co-founding a political group that had significant financial plans aimed at certain Democratic incumbents.

In leaked audio from a private meeting, DNC Chair Ken Martin vented his frustrations over the discord triggered by Hogg’s actions. Yet, amidst the mixed feelings, College Democrats of America National President Sunjay Muralitharan expressed gratitude for Hogg’s commitment to young Americans, recalling how he always made time to connect with local Democratic leadership during his travels.

Muralitharan looked forward to continuing collaboration with Hogg, focusing on youth voices and striving for significant victories leading into 2026.

Neither Hogg nor a DNC spokesperson responded immediately to inquiries regarding the situation.
