President Joe Biden may continue to insist that he is qualified to remain in office, but his supporters aren’t so convinced.
In a recent New York Times op-ed, “George Clooney: I Like Joe Biden. But We Need a New Candidate,” Clooney argues that Biden should step aside to allow another Democrat to challenge Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
“I love Joe Biden — as a Senator, as Vice President and as President. I consider him a friend and I believe in him. … He has won many of the battles he has faced these last four years. … But there is one battle he cannot win — a battle against time. No one can win,” Clooney said in the op-ed.
“This is shocking to say, but the Joe Biden I was sitting with at a fundraiser three weeks ago was not the ‘big’ Joe Biden of 2010. It wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. It was the same person we all saw at the debates,” Clooney continued.
“Joe Biden is a hero. He saved our democracy in 2020. I want him to do the same in 2024,” he concluded.
meanwhile Sara Gonzalez Dave Rubin agrees that Biden is unfit for the White House, but he’s not at all convinced by Clooney’s little op-ed.
“How many Casamigos did he have before writing that article?” Rubin jokes, to which Gonzalez laughs. “First, Joe Biden did not save our democracy. Second, if he truly cares about America, he has not done anything positive in the three and a half years of this phony, idiotic administration.”
Rubin believes this all actually “has something to do with Barack Obama.”
“It was very condescending to see him carry President Obama off the stage at the end of the event,” Rubin explains. “And the way he put his arm around the president, to me, it was very condescending. That was President Obama signaling to everybody, ‘Don’t worry, I’m really in charge.'”
“They’re starting to realize, ‘Oh, Biden’s not going to win, so we better replace him quickly so Barack has a chance to serve a fourth term,'” he added.
Gonzalez noted that Clooney called a White House official on May 20 to complain about Joe Biden accusing the ICC of disrespecting his wife and calling the arrest warrant outrageous.
Bizarrely, Clooney also hosted major fundraisers with Biden, and between them the pair raised about $28 million for the Biden campaign.
“Soon afterwards I heard George Clooney suddenly say, ‘Oh, I’ve changed my mind,'” Gonzalez said, wondering what was behind the sudden change of heart.
