George Clooney Displays French Skills at Golden Globes
At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, George Clooney showcased his French speaking abilities, shortly after President Trump congratulated him on becoming a French citizen. The actor, nominated for his role in “Jay Kelly,” delivered a greeting in French during the ceremony.
“Bonsoir, I’m Ami,” he remarked, translating to, “Good evening, everyone. It’s an honor to be here.”
His reference to his new citizenship comes just a couple of weeks after Trump celebrated Clooney and his wife Amal’s decision to become French citizens. Trump commented on Truth Social, saying, “Good news! George and Amal Clooney, the worst political prophets of all time, are now officially French citizens. France is sadly in the midst of a major crime problem due to its absolutely terrible handling of immigration, just as it was in the Sleepy Joe Biden era.” He also noted that Clooney has received more attention for his political commentary than for his films.
Following a reminder of Clooney’s comments about Trump during an online discussion, a White House spokesperson told Fox News, “Nobody cares.”
The couple and their eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, were granted citizenship last year. Clooney, an acclaimed actor and director, mentioned in October that they relocated to France to escape Hollywood culture for a better family life.
In an interview, Clooney elaborated on their farm lifestyle, explaining, “You know, we live on a farm in France. I spent a good part of my life growing up on a farm, and when I was a kid I hated the whole idea of a farm. But now, for them, it’s like not having an iPad. They have to have dinner with the adults and bring in the dishes. They have a much better life.”
“I was worried about raising my kids in the Los Angeles culture. I felt they would never get a proper shake up in life,” he added, reflecting on the challenges of Hollywood.
The Clooneys own properties worldwide, including in Italy, England, and near Clooney’s family in Kentucky. Earlier this year, Clooney shared his thoughts on leading a quieter life, saying, “Growing up in Kentucky, all I wanted was to get off the farm and escape that life. Now I find myself back to my old life. I’m driving tractors and stuff.”
Amal Clooney has also discussed managing family privacy while in the public eye, noting the difficulties in carving out private moments. “It’s important to strike a balance where people feel like they can spend time alone with family and friends,” she stated.
