Conservative lawyer George Conway says former Trump aide Hope Hicks’ testimony in former President Trump’s hush money trial “completely” contradicts former lawyer Michael Cohen’s story about Trump in the case. He said it was supported.
“She put into Donald Trump’s mouth the fact that he understood those payments were made on his behalf by Michael Cohen before the election,” Conway said. Said He spoke about Trump on CNN’s “The Situation Room” with host Wolf Blitzer.
“And it’s just…shocking testimony. This completely corroborates Michael Cohen’s story, which is corroborated in many ways, that he was signing these checks with a copy. When…it shows that he knew he was doing this at the Resolve desk for goodwill. He looked at the backup and it said ‘Court Vassals’. But I knew that wasn’t true.”
Mr Trump’s hush money trial began last Monday, marking the first criminal trial of a former US president. He was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with repaying Cohen, who paid $130,000 to an adult film actor to keep quiet about an alleged affair with Trump before the 2016 election. However, Mr. Cohen denies this.
Mr. Cohen claims that the former president directed him to pay hush money to women who say they had past affairs with Mr. Trump.
“First of all, nothing was done at the Trump Organization unless it was run through Mr. Trump,” Cohen said in 2018. “He directed me to pay, he directed me to get involved in these matters. I did,” he said.
On Friday, Ms. Hicks broke down on stage after talking about a phone call with her former boss about how Ms. Cohen had allegedly made a bona fide payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. She seemed to have doubts that Cohen did it for that reason, which she called “out of character for her.”
