Conservative lawyer George Conway told former President Trump’s lawyers on Wednesday that he was “sickened” after they argued Tuesday that he did not violate the gag order in his hush money trial. It almost happened,” he said.
“I almost felt sorry for Todd Blanche.” Conway said. CNN’s Erin Burnett talks about her experience in court.
Prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office allege that President Trump has repeatedly violated a gag order that prohibits attacks on witnesses, prosecutors, court staff, and judges’ families.
Judge Juan Melchán, who is overseeing President Trump’s criminal trial, held a hearing Tuesday to discuss the former president’s online posts and decide whether the outcome is appropriate.
Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche said the former president was responding to a political attack and said there was no intentional violation of the gag order.
Marchand appeared skeptical of Blanche’s claims, saying the lawyer was losing credibility. Conway agreed, stating that Blanche’s performance in court was “far from convincing or believable.”
“Mr. Branch was unable to point out what President Trump was responding to,” he said.
Trump’s alleged violations were primarily posted to his Truth Social account, where he made critical comments about potential witnesses and shared articles. He called his former personal attorney Michael Cohen and adult film star Stormy Daniels, who will later be key witnesses in the trial, “scumbags.”
Prosecutors are asking Marchand to pay a $1,000 fine for each of 10 posts by Trump that allegedly violated the gag order. Conway said the former president and Republican presidential candidate should be fined for his attacks.
“But in that case, I think there needs to be a warning, like, ‘Okay, we’ll let you in.'” [jail] If you keep doing this, it will last for an hour or two,” Conway said.
