George Conway at Protest Wearing Antifa Shirt
George Conway, a vocal critic of Trump, showed up at a “No Kings” protest in the Washington, D.C. area wearing a shirt that proclaimed “I’m Antifa.” This was noteworthy, especially given President Trump’s recent designation of Antifa as a terrorist organization.
Witnesses spotted Conway at the protest donning the shirt.
Earlier this week, Trump made an announcement on Truth Social, stating that he officially recognized Antifa as a terrorist group.
“I’m happy to inform the patriotic Americans that we are designating Antifa, the radical left, as a major terrorist organization,” Trump wrote on his platforms.
He added, “I also recommend that those funding Antifa be investigated thoroughly according to the highest legal standards. Thanks for bringing this to attention!”
A White House representative told CNN that this designation is part of a larger strategy the president will employ to tackle left-wing groups believed to incite political violence.
Paul Boer from Breitbart News noted that the president’s decision follows the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, allegedly by an individual motivated by leftist ideology. Previously, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller expressed intentions to use federal resources to target and dismantle organized domestic left-wing terrorist movements.
Antifa claims to be an anti-fascist organization, though it’s frequently criticized for resorting to violence and intimidation tactics. A federal grand jury recently indicted two alleged members of Antifa for attacking an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Texas back in July.
FBI Director Kash Patel remarked, “For the first time in history, the FBI has arrested violent anarchist extremists, charging these Antifa-associated individuals with material support of terrorism. This was a coordinated terrorist attack on the Prairie Land Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, where armed extremists sought to harm a U.S. military officer on the Fourth of July.”
