Georgia alligator takes ride in police cruiser after driveway ‘arrest’: video

A Georgia alligator was “arrested” and placed into a police car after appearing illegally in a resident’s driveway, a video showed.

Chatham County Police released video of the alligator “arrest” in a Facebook post on May 25.

The incident happened Friday near Savannah.

“On Thursday evening, Corporals Blackledge and Stapleton sprang into action after a suspicious visitor was spotted in the area,” police said in a Facebook post.

“Watch as we capture an alligator, put it in the back of a police car and release it back into the wild.”

Body camera footage shows officers smacking the alligator’s mouth to restrain the reptile and placing it in the back of a police vehicle.

The reptile was then shown being released into the wild.

Residents thoroughly enjoyed the video, with many leaving amusing comments.

“Did you read him his rights?” one person joked.

“Poor alligator. I’ve been in the back of that Explorer,” joked another.

Other locals praised the bravery of the officers who captured the crocodile.

“Thank you again, you wear many hats and do them well,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Country boys made it,” another comment read.

Chatham County Police told Fox News Digital that alligator sightings like this one are not uncommon in the area.

“In recent years, there have been several cases where agency personnel have encountered crocodiles and released them back into the wild,” the agency said.

“I am proud of Corporal Blackledge and Corporal Stapleton for their quick and calm action in removing this alligator from a nearby area back to its natural home in the Ogeechee River.”

“It takes a lot of courage to capture a crocodile and tape its mouth shut in order to carry it, but it’s a real adrenaline rush once you remove the tape from the crocodile’s mouth and set it free,” the statement added.
