A Georgia man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly punching and slapping his daughter after she lost during a wrestling match at her middle school.

Stephen Matthew Slaton, 38, of Commerce, 110 miles northeast of Atlanta, was taken into custody by the Hall County Sheriff's Office on Saturday. fox atlanta report.

Deputies were called to Cherokee Bluff Middle School just after 2 p.m. after a report of a man punching and slapping a girl.

Investigators said Slaton appeared angry when his daughter lost the game. The man is suspected of punching the girl in the back and slapping her in the face before grabbing her by the ear and lifting it over her head, the report said.

The child was not injured. She was not a Hall County student, authorities said. She traveled to the area with her family to attend a youth wrestling event.

Slaton was charged with first-degree child abuse and posted $11,200 bail Monday.
