Georgia Governor Brian Kemp Supports Rep. Mike Collins in Critical U.S. Senate Election

Georgia Governor Backs Collins Against Ossoff

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, a Republican, has officially endorsed Representative Mike Collins in his bid to unseat the vulnerable Senator Jon Ossoff, a Democrat. This announcement comes as the election approaches, with less than two months to go.

Kemp noted in a statement, “Mike Collins and I share a commitment to making Georgia an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. Mike has delivered results as a businessman and commonsense leader in Washington, and that’s what we need in our next Senator. Jon Ossoff’s far-left agenda doesn’t represent Georgia values, and the future of our state and country demands a different direction.”

Collins, who owns a trucking company and represents Georgia’s 10th congressional district, expressed gratitude for Kemp’s support as he aims to regain one of the two Democrat-held Senate seats in a state that’s leaning more purple.

“Governor Kemp has never been afraid of a tough fight, and Georgia is stronger today because he’s been willing to take them on,” Collins stated. “I’m grateful to have him standing with me to take back Georgia’s Senate seat, stand up to the far-left agenda, and defeat Jon Ossoff this November.”

Initially, Kemp had endorsed Derek Dooley, a political outsider, before the primaries. Dooley, a former football coach and first-time candidate, lost to Collins, with Collins capturing 55.5 percent of the vote compared to Dooley’s 44.5 percent.

Kemp had also backed Trump-supported Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones during the gubernatorial race, but later shifted his support to billionaire healthcare executive Rick Jackson after Jackson’s impressive last-minute campaign helped him defeat Jones.

A spokesperson for the Ossoff campaign responded to Kemp’s endorsement by suggesting that it might not significantly help Collins. Valeria Rivadeneira-Crandell stated, “There’s a reason Brian Kemp worked so hard to defeat bigot Mike Collins in the GOP primary and waited to endorse the congressman until less than two months from Election Day.” She further described Collins as having connections with neo-Nazis and white nationalists.

The Georgia Senate race is anticipated to be closely contested, potentially influencing the control of the Senate during the latter part of President Trump’s upcoming term. Ossoff has been labeled as possibly the most vulnerable Democrat facing reelection, and he’s believed to have aspirations for a presidential run in 2028.

RealClear Polling describes the race as a “toss-up,” with an average poll indicating Ossoff holds a projected lead of 7.8 points.
