Georgia high school shooting: Frightened student texts mom during horrifying rampage

A text message from a student to his mother reveals the horrifying events unfolding inside a Georgia high school, where authorities have confirmed that four people were killed and many others were injured in a shooting.

“There just was a shooting at my school. I'm scared. Please this is not a joke,” read the text message posted by Erin Clark.

The mother then replies to her son and tells him she is coming home from work.

“I love you,” the student tells his mother.

She retorts and asks where he is.

“Class. Someone died,” a student replies.

“I saw an ambulance and police on the way,” the mother told her son.

The post was accompanied by photos and videos showing police outside the school.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that four people were killed. Apalachee High School One person was killed and nine others were injured and taken to multiple hospitals in Barrow County, about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta. The suspect survived and is in custody.

“At approximately 10:23 a.m., officers from multiple law enforcement agencies and fire and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the high school on a report of a shooting,” the Barrow County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Barrow County Sheriff Judd Smith offered limited details to reporters Wednesday afternoon. He said his department first received reports of an active shooter at 9:30 a.m. and acknowledged that there were “multiple injuries” but would not deny or confirm whether there were any fatalities.

The sheriff said Law Enforcement Authorities are conducting a “very fluid investigation” and asked the media for patience in gathering the facts. He predicted it will take “several days” to work out what happened and how.

Smith confirmed that a suspect was in custody and said they were “in the process” of reuniting the students with their parents.
