Georgia police say man shot and killed armed thug trying to rob him in parking garage: ‘I just had to shoot somebody’

A Georgia man told police he had stopped the incident. Attempted armed robbery After he pulled out a gun himself and shot and killed the thug who had allegedly threatened him.

Hapeville police responded to a panicked 911 call from a victim of a shooting at Atlantic Aerotropolis on South Fulton Street around 9:30 a.m. April 15.

“Hey, I had to shoot someone on the top floor of the parking deck,” the man said in the emergency call obtained by WSB-TV.

The man said he was walking from his apartment to his car when he encountered an armed man.

“His car was parked next to my car. He got out of the car and said, ‘Hey, brother!’ Don’t move! ‘ [and] He pointed a gun at me. I pulled out a gun and shot,” he added.

After the shooting, officers noticed another man in the passenger seat of the suspect’s car. The victim ran into an apartment and called police to tell them about the incident.

Police said they were worried that a second suspect would follow them to the apartment, but the second suspect fled the scene.

Witnesses said they saw a man running towards a nearby church. Police later identified the suspect as Alton Coleman and arrested him after he was seen urinating in public at a church.

Coleman is charged with murder and aggravated assault, and records show he has a lengthy criminal history. The man who was shot was identified as 39-year-old Rand Carter.

WSB was also able to confirm that Carter had been released from prison just one year before the robbery and death. He was serving a 15-year sentence for obstruction of commerce by intimidation and violence, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The victim did not wish to speak to WSB about the incident.

Hapeville is a city of approximately 6,500 people located in the northwestern part of the state.
