Georgia set to take the top spot after defeating Alabama

Tuscaloosa Showdown: Georgia Edges Alabama 20-17

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — In a gripping matchup, Dwight Phillips Jr. rushed for 120 yards while Bo Walker added 69, propelling Georgia to a thrilling 20-17 victory over No. 6 Alabama on Saturday night, solidifying their claim to the top ranking.

Gunnar Stockton was instrumental for the Bulldogs, contributing one touchdown through the air and another on the ground.

Despite missing their top rusher, Nate Frazier, the second-ranked Bulldogs amassed 206 rushing yards in this intense SEC showdown. This win marks Georgia’s third triumph over Alabama in their last 11 encounters and their first regular-season victory against the Tide since 2007.

The game went on as Hurricane Isaias made landfall Friday night. Bryant-Denny Stadium was buzzing with fans, even though President Trump chose not to attend. After this match, Georgia is expected to rise to the top of the AP Top 25, especially following No. 1 Texas’s loss to Oklahoma.

It wasn’t surprising that Georgia and Alabama exchanged blows throughout the game; the outcome was ultimately decided in the waning minutes, and it was quite contentious.

Officials opted not to call a penalty on Georgia safety KJ Bolden for what many thought was a clear pass interference. Bolden later sacked Alabama’s Keelon Russell, costing Alabama a chance at a field goal.

As the Crimson Tide (5-1, 3-1) aimed to regain possession, a personal foul on cornerback Dijon Lee allowed the Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0) to drain the clock effectively.

Stockton ended the game with 18 completions on 22 attempts for 249 yards, including a touchdown and an interception.

Meanwhile, Russell completed 16 of 30 passes for 185 yards, one touchdown, and also rushed for 41 yards.

Alabama’s Ryan Coleman-Williams Faces Tough Game

Alabama’s standout receiver, Ryan Coleman-Williams, was sidelined twice, first due to a left leg injury and then for a concussion evaluation.

Late in the second quarter, quarterback Keelon Russell threw a pass to Coleman-Williams in the end zone, which was deflected. When he tried to get up, he was unable to bear weight on his leg and needed assistance off the field.

After halftime, Coleman-Williams returned and pedaled away on a bike, ready to start the third quarter.

Unfortunately, he was injured again toward the end of the game when he landed hard while attempting another catch. Team trainers took away his helmet and escorted him to the locker room. He concluded the game with three catches for 39 yards.
